BALL was definitely on top of bat when Steeton hosted Adel in the Premier Division of the Aire-Wharfe League.
Steeton won the toss and batted, but were dismissed for 122.
Opener James Robinson (30) added 56 for the second wicket with Luke Chapman (20), but after that only captain Stephen Pearson (24) could match their efforts as they failed to build from a good base of 63-1.
Sam O’Sullivan took 6-40 for Adel and his team-mates backed up that fine bowling display with a solid batting card, winning by seven wickets in the 27th over.
Bowlers found things tougher at Cuckoo’s Nest in Division One.
Newly-promoted hosts Harden were sent in by Guiseley, but batted with purpose to make 216, with contributions from the top and middle order.
Skipper Andy Wear (31) put on 56 with fellow opener Elliot Wilson (22), and star batsman Toby Priestley (20) also chipped in.
Nick Hindle (42) and Martin Falkingham (22 not out) also did well against an attack led by Aniket Rana (6-40).
Fingernails were then being bitten towards the end of Guiseley’s reply after they collapsed from 163-2, and they needed a last-ball boundary to win by one wicket.
Harden bowler Matthew Hogg (3-76) took three of those victims as things became very tense.
