STEETON’S position in the Premier Division of the Aire-Wharfe League is looking increasingly dire.

They are now 42 points from safety after losing at Pool, coupled with third-from-bottom Tong Park Esholt winning in the final over at Burley.

Pool made 245-8 after opting to bat, opener Logan Duval scoring 108 as only Steve Pearson (3-50) and Ewan Johnston (3-39) both kept the run rate down and took wickets.

Steeton were then dismissed for 176 in a patchy scorecard, with overseas player Tremaine Dowrich scoring 74 as an opener, but only Paul Quinlan (57) making any other significant contribution on a scorecard that contained three ducks.

Harden’s position in Division One is almost as dire and they could well go down to the third tier just a year after being promoted from it as runners-up.

They were part of a run-filled contest at Cuckoos Nest, visitors Bolton Villas scoring 283-9 after being sent in, with Ben McGonigle taking 3-83 and Prathamesh Kumble, the fifth bowler used, 4-50.

Despite 30 from skipper Andy Wear, Harden’s innings wasn’t really going anywhere at 64-3 until Toby Priestley (63) and Kumble (69) put on 82 for the fourth wicket.

However, there was a lack of support, and despite Tom Stordy’s late 27 not out, the innings tailed off to 257, having been 229-5.

Harden, dismissed in 45.5 overs, are now 11 points from safety in second from bottom.
