Silsden superbly triumphed 2-0 over Northern Premier League East Division side Liversedge in the FA Cup extra preliminary round on Saturday afternoon.

In a spirited performance at the Clayborn Stadium, the away side took a surprise lead on the verge of half time through Kayle Price.

Despite Sedge creating a number of chances, the Sils defence stood firm to keep them out.

They were rewarded for their efforts when Casey Stewart volleyed home a second goal on 77 minutes to see the Northern Counties East League Premier Division side through to the next round.

The hosts got off to the quicker start, with Jannai Gordon breaking into the box down the left before curling his shot wide of the far post.

At the other end, Cody Cromack looked to shoot from distance but instead his shot fell at the feet of Price, who turned and placed his effort wide.

Gordon continued to threaten for the hosts and had the opportunity to break the deadlock on 27 minutes when he dribbled his way into space before shooting over the bar.

Instead, it was Silsden who took the lead following a corner.

Stewart’s delivery was met by Harry Coates with a powerful header and despite Dylan Parkin’s initial save onto the post, Price was on hand to fire home the opener.

After the interval, the Cobbydalers were inches away from doubling their advantage early on as neat footwork from Cromack allowed him the space to loft a cross into the near post.

Luke Brooksbank got on the end of it, and was unfortunate to see his looping header drop just over the crossbar.

There were limited chances for either side until the 65th minute when Price went close to doubling both his and Silsden’s tally with an opportunistic volley from another set-piece situation.

But though that did not come off, Silsden eventually found their second goal with 13 minutes to go.

Substitute Tom Greaves had only been on the pitch a matter of seconds when Callum Bradbury launched a long ball towards him.

Sedge keeper Parkin rushed out to clear but he could only deflect the ball off Greaves and into the path of Stewart, who made no mistake in volleying into the empty net.

Into added time, things almost got even better for the visitors, Greaves driving into the box before smashing his strike off the post.

Ellis Hudson then had two bites of the cherry on the rebound but saw both his efforts well saved by a diving Parkin.

The result sees the Cobbydalers into the FA Cup preliminary round, where they will host NPL West Division side Atherton Collieries on Saturday, August 17.

Next up, however, is a trip to Tadcaster Albion in the NCEL Premier Division tomorrow, where Silsden will look to make it three wins from three to begin the season.
