All of the holes at Keighley Golf Club were turned into Par 3s for the day earlier this month by club captain David Atkinson, for a hugely poignant reason.

Atkinson managed to put together 18 teams of four, with the 72-strong field playing to raise money for Double Impact, an addiction recovery charity.

The day meant a lot to Atkinson in particular, who explained to the Keighley News: “Double Impact is a charity that is close to our family’s heart, as my brother Richard lost his own battle with addiction seven years ago.

“He worked with the charity too and the Par 3 day for them was a great success, raising £900.

“Craig Smith had a hole in one on the eighth hole, while Andy Fitzpatrick won the ultimate nearest the pin prize.

“And in the end, Joanne Moawer, Margaret Frankland, Bea Hopwood and Debbie Jeffery won the competition outright.”

An enthusiastic Atkinson added: “Keighley Golf Club is an amazing club for supporting new golfers.

“This competition was a way of bringing all golfers together, male and female, to experience a magical day at a great course with wonderful food.

“We are already planning next year’s event.”
