THE Keighley Albion U12s continued their trophy-winning season on Saturday by triumphing in the Yorkshire Challenge Cup.

Having already won The Leeds Rhinos Butlins Tournament back in May, they completed the cup double with a 10-4 victory over Normanton Knights.

The two young teams faced off at Mount Pleasant, home of the Batley Bulldogs.

And it was always likely to be a close contest, given the sides have enjoyed two close league games this season too.

Albion got off to a bad start when George Patterson was sin-binned, but they managed to survive his absence without conceding.

Despite Keighley looking to have the edge once they returned to their full complement, it was Normanton who took the lead in the final.

Just before the break, their powerful No.14 broke the Albion line to score, and though the conversion was missed, it meant the Knights took a 4-0 lead into the interval.

But playing down the ground’s slope in the second half, Keighley quickly levelled, as Clark Bolton’s kick bounced perfectly for Sidney Richardson, who ran in to score.

Albion were unable to add the extras, but they got the game-winning try with just a few moments of the game left.

Bolton neatly sidestepped his man before finding Joseph Cooper-Prisk, who threw a dummy before going in under the posts.

And Bolton was on hand to land the easy conversion that sealed the cup for Albion, sparking excited celebrations.
