SILSDEN remain fourth in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division table despite suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat at Barton Town on Saturday.
The Cobbydalers had only lost one league game all season heading into this encounter, whereas Barton had just six points from their opening six games.
But a late Ellis Broughton goal proved the difference in Lincolnshire at the weekend, and Silsden must recovery quickly for a league game at Frickley Athletic tomorrow.
A brilliant last-ditch tackle stopped Silsden’s Kayle Price when he looked to be through early on, but Barton served an early warning of their threat by having a goal ruled out for offside.
Callum Bradbury then had to make a smart stop after a long ball over the top caught out the visiting defence.
The Cobbydalers edged the rest of the first half, but without creating anything particularly clearcut, as the teams went into the break goalless.
Bradbury made a sensational double save for Silsden just after half-time, tipping a shot on to the post before managing to keep out the close-range rebound.
Barton were having the better chances and after Bradbury made a good save from long range, Cameron Clark made a stunning goalline clearance to keep the hosts out with four minutes to go.
But moments later, Broughton put Barton in front, and Silsden were unable to respond, despite Casey Stewart going close with a volley from a tight angle just before the final whistle.
