STEETON, who have had a chalk-and-cheese season in the Aire-Wharfe League Premier Division, could not finish off their campaign with a victory.

Having won only two of their first 11 league matches up to late July, they then won 10 consecutively until losing on Saturday at home to Pool.

From what looked like certain relegation, Steeton ended the season comfortably safe in eighth and, without a 20-point deduction for disciplinary misdemeanours, they would have been fourth.

Pool won the toss and batted at the weekend, and their 220 was largely down to opener Logan Duval, who made 105.

Steeton captain Steve Pearson (4-34) finished off the tail nicely after the visitors had been 174-4.

The hosts lost their first three wickets early on, but Pearson (48) and Paul Quinlan (37 not out) were the main instigators of the recovery.

Rain caused the match to be halted at 167-6 after 42 overs however, meaning Steeton lost on DLS.

Bardsey and Harden have both been relegated from Division One, but the former’s win at home to Guiseley and the latter’s defeat at Bolton Villas means that they swapped places at the bottom.

Harden finished with the wooden spoon in limp fashion too, as they were outplayed on the final day.

Villas won the toss and made 242, the reliable Matthew Hogg (3-58) and Toby Priestley (3-47) doing best with the ball.

Tom Stordy (35) got Harden off to a decent start in their reply, but only Martin Walker (60) offered any resistance after that, as the visitors were dismissed for 183.
