Keighley were back on form after the previous weekend’s ugly win at Leodiensian, as Saturday saw them produce a dynamic nine-try demolition of Old Rishworthian at Rose Cottage.
The hosts romped into a 27-7 lead by the break, and they were similarly dominant after the break, eventually claiming a 60-14 win in this one-sided Counties One Yorkshire clash.
Keighley signalled their intent early on, as some superb interplay between forwards and backs led to a penalty for Alex Brown, which he knocked through the posts to give his side the lead.
A few minutes later, some good work down the middle from solid centres Sean Kelly and Taylor Prell eventually led to a lineout deep in Rishworthian territory.
The quick possession from that was driven over the line, wing forward Oliver Snowden claiming the try, which Brown converted.
Although Rishworthian gained possession, they were continually under pressure and forced to kick out of defence.
Once again, Keighley were back on the attack with winger Ben Stead and full back Alfie Seeley making the extra man in midfield count.
The Rishworthian defence could not handle the overload, leading to two tries in quick succession for impressive winger Sam Blakeley.
They helped Keighley into a healthy 22-0 lead and the pressure play continued, as strong running and speedy defence kept the opposition trapped in their own half.
Number eight Tom Whyte finished of a driven lineout with a well taken try, but to Rishworthian’s credit, they hit back and got on the scoreboard.
As the half time whistle beckoned, the visitors, prompted by excellent outside half Rangi Kui, made a rare incursion into Keighley territory and their efforts were rewarded with a good forwards try for hooker Hunter Jackson-Sullivan.
Full back Harry Docherty added the conversion to give his side the tiniest glimmer of hope heading into the second half.
But that was soon swept away, as the second half started for Keighley like it did the first.
Once again, strong running and quick hands from all team members was rewarded when hard-working prop Andy Heys scored early on, with Brown converting.
Yet again Rishworthian were pinned in their own 22, but this time outside half Kui, against the run of play, found some space wide out on the right.
He linked up with his winger, left the defence for dead and scored a superb try under the posts that Doherty converted.
Keighley still had a big scoreboard cushion though, so threw caution to the wind and were totally intent on attack.
The support play from their athletic mobile forwards was outstanding and the outcome of their free-flowing play was a try for second row Jordan Yaxley and then another for wing forward Max Wild.
The ever-reliable Brown converted both, leaving any hopes Rishworthian had of a comeback in tatters.
Towards the end of the game, the visitors rallied and under normal circumstances would have expected more for their sustained efforts.
But instead, Keighley took a quick line out, which led to a surge up field by Seeley.
Then, tired defenders were forced to watch in-form winger Blakeley take possession on his own halfway line.
He broke away and scored his hat trick try, which was converted by Brown.
Yet Keighley saved the best until last, with the final try probably the most impressive of the game.
Full of confidence, the hosts moved the ball across the field before releasing centre Prell, who used his pace to race a full 50 yards and score wide out.
Next week, Keighley will be on the road again, away to Wensleydale, knowing victory could take them to the top of the table.
They currently sit third, behind North Ribblesdale and Harrogate Pythons, but are only two points off the summit.
