Silsden continued their winning run with a 1-0 victory over Hallam at the Regal Interiors Stadium on Saturday.

In an end-to-end game, both sides created a number of clearcut opportunities but it wasn't until the second half when a Jake Cassidy header proved to be the winner.

With five consecutive league victories, the Cobbydalers climb to third in the Northern Countues East League Premier Division, opening up a gap of eight points on the playoff chasing pack.

Both keepers were called into action in the opening 10 minutes, Silsden stopper Callum Bradbury denying Callum Ward before Hugo Warhust held on to a Luke Brooksbank effort.

Harry Coates was having a big impact at both ends in the first half, his crucial block denying the visitors the opener after just 10 minutes, while his header from a corner soon after was kept out by Warhurst.

The back-and-forth nature continued throughout the opening 45 minutes, Ward again testing Bradbury with a first-time volley.

Silsden's best moments of the half came on 37 minutes as Brooksbank's deflected shot from the edge of the box was tipped behind for a corner.

Coates met the set-piece and his headed effort beat Warhurst, only for the Hallam defenders to scramble the ball off the goalline.

There was time for one more Silsden opportunity before the break, as Ellis Hudson drove towards the penalty area and fired a shot over the crossbar.

The frantic action of the first half dimmed slightly in the second half, although Silsden's threat from corners was still apparent.

Coates again met a Casey Stewart delivery, only to see his shot blocked and cleared away.

A breakthrough eventually came for the home side, from yet another set-piece situation.

This time the ball in was met by Cassidy, who powered home his header from just inside the six-yard box.

Kayle Price nearly doubled the home side’s advantage soon after, his volleyed effort drifting narrowly wide of the far post.

Hallam almost pulled level, but Bradbury produced a superb diving save to claw away a curling strike by James Cadman.

As the game entered the closing stages, Price was inches away from putting the Cobbydalers out of sight when his header ratted Warhurst's crossbar.

Despite some late pressing from the visitors, they were unable to find a leveller and the Cobbydalers were able to celebrate their third win in a week.

Next up is a run of three away games for Silsden, starting with a long away trip on Wednesday night to Winterton Rangers, before a tough game at the league leaders Penistone Church on Saturday.

Silsden's neighbours Steeton were not in action on Saturday, as their North West Counties Football League First Division North relegation six-pointer at Garstang was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Their next league game is this Saturday in the league against a strong Euxton Villa side, just three days after they travel to Campion in the West Riding County Cup second round.
