SILSDEN have moved back to the top of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division after an excellent 4-1 win at Winterton Rangers last night.

The visitors flew out of the blocks, with Toby Jeffrey, Luke Brooksbank and Ellis Hudson all going close inside the opening 15 minutes.

But keeper Callum Bradbury had to be alert to keep out a dangerous Winterton cross-cum-shot while the game was still goalless.

Silsden took the lead on 24 minutes, when Jake Cassidy volleyed the ball home to open the scoring, backing up his winner against Hallam on Saturday nicely.

Just after the half-hour mark, Kayle Price produced a brilliant one-two with Brooksbank, allowing the latter to stroke the ball into the bottom corner to double the away’s side lead.

Price then drilled a shot just wide shortly before half-time, with Silsden well on top heading into the break.

Jeffrey scored his first Silsden goal early in the second half, as he poked home a cross at the back post.

And Hudson soon made it 4-0, scoring from the penalty spot following a Winterton foul.

Veteran striker Tom Greaves almost made it five, but an untimely bobble caused him to shoot over the bar when he was through on goal.

Winterton scored a consolation goal with 15 minutes to go, before Greaves came close again, shooting wide from a tight angle.

A clearance off the line by Lewis Morgan kept the hosts out late on, while Cassidy came close to scoring the first and last goal of the game, only to fire the ball over the bar from inside the box.

Silsden are now two points clear at the summit and can extend that advantage further when they visit second-placed Penistone Church in a huge clash this Saturday.
