KEIGHLEY Cricket Club will be hoping the return of a familiar face helps them avoid a repeat of their difficult 2024 season.

Staring down the barrel of a second relegation in three years, Keighley avoided the drop from Division Two by just a single point.

After a troubled period on and off the field, Keighley will be hoping to put a stop to their downward spiral in 2025.

And the re-signing of Sam Massheder should help with that.

The young wicketkeeper batsman was at Keighley as a junior, then left for Yeadon, before returning to Lawkholme Lane ahead of the 2020 season.

Initially, he came back to Keighley to test himself at a higher level, though four years on, Yeadon are now in the division above them.

And that is in part due to Massheder, who went back to Yeadon for a second time.

But he has now returned to his boyhood club in Keighley, where he will be joined by Gareth Lee, whose signing from Spen Victoria was confirmed yesterday.

Victoria failed to get promoted from Division Three last season, so star all-rounder Lee has decided to move on to test himself at a higher level.

An extremely handy spinner, No.4 Lee should also boost Keighley’s batting ranks nicely, given the Lawkholme Laners often had to rely on recovery jobs from the lower order last season.
