KEIGHLEY potter Chris Melling and playing partner Tom Ford suffered an agonising semi-final loss in the Ultimate Pool Pairs Cup earlier this week.

They were facing Josh Kane and Callum Singleton on the opening game of Finals Night on Monday and won the first frame in the two-set clash.

And with Melling clearing the reds nicely in frame two of the night, he and his team-mate were about to sit on the brink of winning the first set.

But with the eight-ball in a difficult position tight to the cushion, it was a tricky final shot for the Keighley ace.

He potted it from a difficult angle, but saw the white fly diagonally down the table as a result, finding its way into the pocket for a loss of frame.

That first set finished 2-2 after that unfortunate Melling error, but Kane and Singleton won the second 3-1 to advance into the final.

The other semi-final, which saw Shaun Chipperfield and Karl Sutton take on Tom Cousins and Shane Thompson, saw both sets finish 2-2.

That led to a six-red shootout, which was won by Cousins and Thompson, their time of 31.67 seconds easily beating Chipperfield and Sutton’s effort of 38.88.

An incredibly tight final followed, with the first set finishing 2-2 and the second set being level at 2-2.

Instead of a shootout, there was a fifth-frame decider in the second set, which Kane and Singleton won to claim the trophy.
