SILSDEN Storm Rugby Club has relaunched its girls' rugby section.
The club is introducing a new Stormettes Under-12s development team and an Under-14s team, which will compete in the Yorkshire U-14s East Division.
After a year away, the club is thrilled to welcome back familiar faces and extend an invitation to new players, particularly local schoolgirls in Years 6, 7, 8, and 9, to join the Stormettes and get involved in rugby.
Training sessions for both teams will take place on Saturday mornings from 10am to 11am at Silsden Park.
"We are absolutely delighted to relaunch the Stormettes and provide young girls in our community with the opportunity to play rugby," said club chairman Mickey Hurley. "To say we’re excited to kick this off again is an understatement.
“Silsden Storm has always had a strong girls' section, and the interest we’ve received about our 2025 plan is incredible.
“We’ve also built strong links with Keighley Cougars, helping them launch their women’s team last year, and now that their team is established, we're focused on developing the next generation of female players.
“We can't wait to see how far the Stormettes can go!"
The relaunch of the Stormettes is part of the club’s broader commitment to growing female participation in rugby at all levels.
Hurley said: “With five female coaches already on board, Silsden Storm is determined to continue fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where girls of all abilities can learn, develop, and excel in the sport.
“In addition to the new training opportunities, Silsden Storm is working closely with local schools to attract more young women to rugby, offering them a chance to try the sport and become part of the Stormettes family.
“The club is excited about the growing interest and aims to build on the strong foundation it has established over the past five years.
"We are committed to making rugby accessible to everyone, regardless of experience.”
