All-conquering VQ’s Sports pool team celebrate their 18th consecutive Premier Division title and their sixth treble at the Keighley & District League’s presentation night tomorrow.

Captain Lee Vause’s side continued their dominance of the Summer League last season and also triumphed in the League Cup and the Harry Cole trophy.

VQ’s – who have now reassumed their old name of Pilky’s and also used to be called Imperial – had a comfortable lead in the league through the first half of the season but were closely followed by rivals New Inn.

The Cross Roads-based outfit beat VQ’s in the second half of the campaign to stop the Keighley outfit walking away with the title.

Vause admitted this was a wake-up call for his team, who went on to win the crown convincingly by 24 points.

VQ’s played Oakworth Social in the final of the Leage Cup and it was a close-fought battle, with the Heber Street club going 4-2 up in the first half.

Oakworth showed spirit and determination to reduce the deficit to just 5-4 before finally losing 7-4.

The Harry Cole final was expected to be a classic rematch of many battles that have taken place over the last few years between VQ’s and New Inn.

The league’s two top teams fought it out at Oakworth Social Club but it was not as close as anticipated as a full-strength VQ’s dominated.

They went 5-1 up in the first half before nailing the title 7-2 in the second.

Vause said: “The treble is very hard to accomplish. There have been very strong teams in the league that we have had to beat to reach this milestone and it is the pinnacle for any team to take just one of these titles.

“To take all three is absolutely fantastic and a credit to the team as a whole.”

Along with Vause, the players who featured for the champions were Arfan Dad, Stefan Risidi, Dave Greene, Chris Melling, Tom Smith and Aaron Stack.

The league’s presentation night is at Pilky’s Sports Club & Bar tomorrow from 7.30pm.
